Met an interesting fellow who had never been to America, at NI Week.

Him:  Where are you from?

Me:  I work around the Detroit area.

Him:  Oh you work in that sh** hole.

Me:  ...no I do not work in a sh** hole.

Him:  How many times have you been mugged?

Me:  ...I've never been mugged...what you are saying is extreamely offensive.

After that his attitude changed.

Oh come one are we going to start this?  My school was undefeated last year, and has been undefeated since 1919 so take that.

Ok, your school beats mine.  My grad school has been undefeated in football only since 1967.  University of Cincinnati (my undergrad school) had an undefeated season not long ago.  If only they could keep a coach around...

Wright State University doesn't have a football team either.  But they ALMOST made it to the NCAA basketball tournament last year.

I did it as calmly as possible.  I don't blame anyone who has that type of an opinion who has never been there.  I mean outside of Michigan, and even outside the US the only opinion people have is the one they get from the news.  I have harsh opinions about other places in the world that I've never visited and if I do ever visit I will do my best to be open minded to the fact that my opinion maybe wrong.

We did have a hockey team once, things wouyld get pretty tense when we were beating the local team.

IMO Flint was (is?) worse than Detroit, at least in the 1980's.
