Hello,
I am working on a project at a plant where they are wanting to swap out multiple banks of solenoid valves to our newer valves with better performance. Currently, the plant use profibus protocol to communicate to these valve banks. We do not have a "bolt ON" profibus fieldbus solution with our valve banks. We can do discrete I/O, 25 pin sub-d, E/IP, Modbus, or profinet.
The valves are small solenoid valves and each bank of valves will have 16 solenoids so 16 outputs needed.
I am a mechanical person so this communication area is not my expertise.
Wondering if there is a way to make this work either via a converter, gateway, etc. The smaller the better as we do have to put these valve banks inside a box
Thank you!

probably too late for your application but this is what I would be tempted to use
a wago 750 series profibus slave with several (depending on the number of solenoids you have) associated I/O modules
