They are starting at the beginning of the internet, why else would they be replying into 10 year old threads with the newsgroup functions that have been obsolete since the 90's.
They are posting often to get through the half million plus posts to catch up to the present.

Odd. It works for me just fine when I click on it, and I had simply selected the text that was in the address bar when I was on that page. Your link is to a specific message. Not sure why one would work and the other not on your setup.

You can change the number of posts displayed in a page. If the number is larger than 19 (in this specific instance), then the thread won't have a second page and the URL fails. Personally, I think the site could fail more elegantly by simply showing the first post of the thread in such cases, but I'm guessing it's a corner case Lithium haven't considered.

That would explain it. Ben must have one of those NASA uber-monitors and likes to see all of the messages at once.
