Bizarre Browser Tab-Based Behavior

Scenario (using Firefox 3.6.12, though I don't think the browser is the issue here): I have 4 broweser tabs open. On the first I was replying to a message on the LabVIEW board, and forgot about. On another tab I had the Instrument Control forum. On another tab I had the Breakpoint forum. On another tab I had the main Discussions Forums page.

On the tab with the Discussions Forums I clicked on the LabVIEW Idea Exchange. I look around a bit. I change back to the first tab. The one that still had the reply I was composing and forgot about. I clicked on the Cancel button. Got the requisite "are you sure?" question and said "yeah". That page then displayed the LabVIEW Idea exchange instead of the LabVIEW board, which is where it was.

I have noticed this behavior before, and characterized it as the server maintaining only a single "last visited" page. One might expect that each browser instance would be linked to it's own last-visited page as state data, but when you realize this state is maintained by the server, it's expected behavior since the server only recognizes one session per client. Just musing here.

An alternative solution would be rather than redirecting to the last-visited page in your session, once you "cancel" you will be sent one level up in the bread crumb trail. This might be more intuitive.

All that to say, I can confirm the fishy behavior, but I've written it off as a minor inconvenience.

I would agree that it's a minor invonvenience. I wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one seeing it, and that it was likely a server-side issue.
