Handy Forum Search Tips -

Searching from the main page (forums.ni.com) will search ALL boards in the forums.
Searching from a board page (http://forums.ni.com/ni/board?board.id=170) will search ONLY that board.
Searching from a thread page (forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=130&message.id=473) will search ONLY that board.

Using the Advanced Message Search (forums.ni.com/ni/search?advanced=true) it will default to include results from ALL boards, but you can select to limit the search to one board.
Using the Simple Message Search (forums.ni.com/ni/search?type=message&q=&page_size=10) it will search ALL boards.

Search results using the forum search index (any of the search boxes within the forum pages) will return each message separately in the results.
Search results using the Discussion Forums search in the header of the pages will return threads from ALL boards. These are indexed by a different search engine and should only return one result per thread instead of separate results for each message in the thread.

I hope this helps the next time you need to find something in the forums.

Does anyone else have any clever search techniques?

Hi Molly,

Thanks for clarifying this..

Why are each message reported for a given thread when searching within the forum?
I find that annoying... mostly because I do not understand the logic behind it.. although I have an idea why...

I will try the other search methods.. I do prefer the legacy search method... (old school... I know) 😉

Thanks..

Ray

One additional search caveat I forgot to mention.. the search engine used at the top of the page does not currently index any of the content in the "Special Interest Boards" category.

Thanks,

This weeks list is attached.

tst has set a new mark for evolution that I do not think he will be able to duplicate soon. He also beat out Dennis in the number of Q/day this last week.

A year at this rate and I will be looking at your heels tst. of course you may still be chasing CC.

We have three contributors on the cusp of breaking through the 1000 mark in the next week or so. They are

altenbach 974
bilalD 973
Al S 963

Who will get ther next? Stay tuned.

JoeLabView has just passed Gorka Larrea's old mark of 522. I always thought that was an impossible goal when I started answering Q's.

Congratulations and thanks to all!

Hi Ben,

I'm confused, what's the maths behind the evolution column?

Ray, the evolution column is just how much you moved up (or down) in the list.
Ben, You're right. The closer you get to the top, the more impossible it becomes to get high marks in the evolution column (look at Dennis. He's been standing in one place for a long time. That guy really doesn't know how to get ahead in life). To do another jump like that (to place 35), I'd have to post over 230 replies in one week, or 35 a day. I can do that, but I don't think I'll be very popular here after that (due to the blabbering nature these posts will have).
Oh, and one last things. I worked several years in intelligence, and if there is one thing I've learned to be true without a doubt it is that assumption really is the mother of all f*ckups. What makes you think I'm a guy?

Yeah, that's what I thought, but you were at 94 in Enthusiasts7a and are now at 75 in Enthusiasts8, which doesn't make a difference of 42. Which is why I am confused.

That's because 7a was only a temp update made after changes to the code. The measurement is made from 7.
To quote Ben "I will attach the standings as of tonight calling it 7a becuase to keep the rate mesurements right this should be run on weekly basis. The (ah-hem) official update will be posted Sunday afternoon.". So, it was 23 from 7 to 7a and another 19 from 7a to 8, which makes it 42.
Which reminds me to call everyone again to go look at my post here. I still think it is nothing short of genius (I must have had some Douglas Adams inspiration).
