The old search engine did fine.
Google can find it, why not the search engine?
Maybe NI should piggy back the google search engine for the searches then!! - how long before Google notice to do think?

Which has met thinking I should be collecting snail-mail addresses since there seems to be no other way...
I watched the movie 1984 on Sunday evening. I should have watched when I was younger since my sick sense of humour may have found some of it funny or at least bizarre. Watching it Sunday was not fun at all.
Hold it wrong thread!

I LOVE that book. I should love Big Brother, too, but I don't. It's only a matter of time and pain. Oh, I gotta go! It's time for the Two Minutes Hate...[...]

Ben-
I was able to find your post just by removing the word "exploit" and sorting by your alias. The thread is on the second page. Needless to say though, I'm chatting with Lithium right now to see about improvements. Don't give up on search just yet (although google does tend to read my mind... and accurately at that!) I have been successful in finding specific posts search from the forums when I sort by the alias of the poster and make the search terms more general

I have a limited amount of time I can spend answering questions.
THe old search engine used to help me find posts. The new one is a broken down cart that requires I carry one of the axles to get anywhere with it. I really don't care if it is possible to get it to return the posts. I have no desire to learn how to use the peice of ... that have provided. I am here to foster the growth and spread of LV and Lithium's stupid search engine is of no use. Have Lithium fix it. If NI chooses to squander my time rahter than get it fixed then so be it. NI should be a large enough customer to lean on Lithium to fix it.
Lean on them.

I always find stuff faster in our fourm if I look on Google. I am with Ben on this one. The search engine is useless.

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to let you know you're being heard! I'm doing everything I can to look into the Search issue. Hopefully I will hear back from our vendor and know a little more (concerning options and/or improvements) by next week and will communicate that to all of you.
I appreciate your patience.

My two most common Google searches (in no particular order) obviate the need for improvements in the NI forum search function:
- site:ni.com <search term>
- site:lavag.org <search term>

Q:
What day should we look for an update on the plan and schedule to get the search engine fixed?
Thank you,
Ben
recent experience:
I have carried a pack of Hall's around in my pocket for years. Rrecently they stated offering "New" packaging that did away with the red tear ribbon with an "improved" version that was toughted as "twist open". The "new" version simplified the question "which end do I open" but instead the new packaging will not survive a day in your pocket without exploding into a pile of wrappers and sticky mess.
They have since discontinued that New packaging. I think the new search thingy is a sticky mess.

Regarding the new Search:
After speaking with Lithium, Search 1.0 and Search 2.0 are the same search engine. They search the forums the same way. The only differences are that the current search form on the search page has more filtering options available, auto-complete, and the ability to export search results to CSV. See screenshots below.
Search 1.0
Search 2.0
For the current, simple search there is an implied AND. Distance between words is also considered in the Lithium search formula. Lithium suggested to use the "With one or more of the words" section in the Advanced Search to search if you don't want it to specifically search for your exact terms. I have used this "With one or more of the words" field for recent searches and it has provided more relevant results. Unfortunately it is a multi-click process to access the "With one or more of the words" field.
I would love to know if you, as a community, acheive better results by searching from this field. I have spoken with Lithium and currently having our default search box as the "With one of more of the words" field is not an option. When searching from this field, do you receive more relevant search results compared to searching from the default search box? Since the old search produces the same results, rolling back to Search 1.0 will not increase the results you see, but perhaps searching from this specific field will.
I am willing to fight for changes to better the search functionality. However, having data to back up our requests always helps move the process along. Will you test using the alternate field to see if searchability improves?
