New user's default name

Apparently, when a new account is created, the default nick name is the given email address:

Although this is a PICNIC problem, it is bad.

Frequently, unaware new users turn up, with their email address exposed to the internet.

I suggested they post the problem here, but apparently they don't. I understand, fixing only their problem is easier.

I replied to you on another thread, but to close the loop here: We do not create a default alias/user name during account creation and would not use the email address for the reasons you outline. Our team is committed to doing the best to protect our users. In face, for safety, we often edit out email addresses when users include them in their post.

I tested the account creation process last week with a personal device and verified that nothing had changed. If someone can provide a reproducible case, we can take it to the account team for an investigation.
