Notifications adorn behaviour?

Is this correct? If I hadn't clicked my icon I wouldn't have know I had a message waiting.

Thanks RavensFan. I admit to looking for a related post and saw nothing, maybe I 'man-looked' as my wife would say.

Anyway, this is disappointing. Broken or below-expected behaviour is sometimes worse than not having the feature at all. This appears to me to be a mistake - I'd rather it wasn't there and then nothing could look broken.

I have it set to get an e-mail notification when I have a new PM. But yes, there should be an indicator on the page too.
