DMM for low R measurement

Solved!
Go to solution

It looks like the PXI-4130 SMU with the PXI-4071 DMM should meet your needs. Set the SMU to provide 1 ampere (if your load can handle that much) and measure the voltage drop with the DMM. The DMM can read 7 samples per second at 7 1/2 digits.  Do an initial calibration of the SMU current output  and current measurement with the DMM at the desired operating current. Then use the SMU to both source and measure the current (with values corrected by the calibration if needed) and use the DMM to measure the voltage drop. You should be able to get sub micro-ohm resolution at several readings per second.

After several weeks of production, the time has come to give a feedback.

The setup with SMU + DMM (NI-PXI 4130 + NI-PXI-4071) works great and the repeatability of the measurements has been greatly improved in comparison with the DMM alone.

Wayne.C's answer is marked as solution because he was the first to suggest this setup. But many thanks to all who participated in this discussion.
