GPIB to USB

Hi All

I have an instrument which has a USB and Ethernet ports.
My computer system has a PCI-GPIB Card.

Is their a way to connect the GPIB-port on my computer system to the
Ethernet or USB Port on the instrument and communicate.

I was looking thru the external controllers section and came across two products namely
1) Ethernet (NI - GPIB-ENET/100)
2) USB (NI GPIB-USB-B/HS)

My question are
1) can the Ethernet port on my instrument communicate via the NI-GPIB-ENET/100 to the GPIB Port on my computer system
one-on-one with actually having a network.

OR

2) can the USB port on my instrument communicate via the NI-GPIB-USB-HS to the GPIB-Port on my computer system.

Thanks
- Ravi

Number 2 will definitely not work and number 1 might but why would you want to spend all that money? For the USB, all you would need to do is buy a USB cable and connect it between your pc and the instrument. If you want to use the Ethernet, you would buy an Ethernet cable and connect it from the instrument to the pc's network connection, or to a hub that your pc is on, or to a dedicated NIC (network interface card) that you add to the pc. You shouldn't have to spend much more than U$25.

If you use VISA to communicate to instruments, VISA pretty seemlessly supports GPIB, Ethernet, and USB without having to write separate drivers for each. You should read the instrument manual that describes how to use the available ports.

Hello Ravi,

National Instruments does not have a solution to connect a USB/Ethernet instrument to a GPIB bus.  If it is not an option to connect the instrument directly through USB or Ethernet, you may contact your instrument manufacturer to find out if they have a GPIB option available.
