I'm currently trying to use a optical detector that use a USB Serial adapter(FTDI). The device is seen by windows and NI-MAX as working, but I don't get any answer from the instrument. Even using the manufacturer software that doesn't use any NI ressources. If I install the driver and the software on a clean computer, it is working. When I install NI-VISA it is still working as long I don't try to communicate with it. After I try to communicate with it using NI-MAX, it doesn't work anymore. Rebooting the computer doesn't help. I have to uninstall NI-VISA to get the manufacturer's software works again with the instrument. Any idea? Thank you

Windows 7 64-bit, at work and my personnal computer

Windows 8.1 manufacturer side.

ftdi: FT232R

Driver: I tried 2.8.24 and 2.10.0

I don't know what else to suggest. It certainly does not appear to be any problem with NI hardware Orr software.

Perhaps issue with the USB chipset in the PCs.

Perhaps upgrading to the latest BIOS on the work PC. Always risky though.

If the work PC is a desktop, maybe buy a PCI USB card.
