2012f5 wont install on service pack 2

Solved!

Hello,

Do you know if there will be a fix for this, or my problem--installer for SP2 using LabVIEW 2013..  Target machine is XP SP2 and cannot update to SP3.  I was creating installer just fine using LabVIEW 2011.  Just installed LV2013 and created installer, got message that SP3 was required on target.  Went back to LV2011, now I can't build for SP2 anymore???  Whatever component(s) got updated took affect on LV2011 too, so I am dead in the water.  Any good work around?  Or do I have to uninstall everything and then reinstall LV2011.

Thanks!

Hi Shannon,

Why can't you update to SP3?

I was able to download from Microsoft website to a CD and perform installs on my target PC's

Good luck

The target machine is used to run several VALIDATED software applications.  Per our standard operating procedures (medical device company), those other apps would need to be revalidated after SP3 upgrade.  Ridiculous but true.  Too much non-value added work.  Just a bit perturbed that I cannot easily go back.  Not sure why advanced tab shows XP SP2 or later (thought I w/b fine), how did something that obvious get missed/not get changed.

For now, I am using another development system with LV2011 to create the installer.

Thanks!

Hi Shannon,

I understand your frustration. I had to travel to international location to update their XP PC's with SP3. Don't know why NI made the decision that SP3 would be required other than SP3 comes with a .NET installer.

XP will soon be obsoleted (April 2014), so keep your LV2011 PC running until your company is forced to Win7. BTW - Win 7 (32 bit) behaves just like XP but Win 7 (64 bit) is a nightmare with some hardware.

Good Luck

2012f5 is killing me as I cannot upgrade the target machine from XP SP2 to SP3.  Several other apps used on this machine would need to be revalidated.  Not even sure why this patch was suggested as I am running LabVIEW 2011, then installed 2013.  I removed 2013 but cannot uninstall 2012f5, is there a way to do this as it is not listed in control panel-add/remove programs.  I am quite upset as previously stated, the installer build advanced tab show SP2 or later-quite a BIG oversight.  I have lost at least 1 weeks time due to this issue.

Please advise on how I can uninstall 2012f5 as option 1 (upgrade target PC to SP3) or option 2 (don't create installer).  I need the installer to install other drivers and several registry keys.

Regards,

Shannon

Hi Shannon,

Try building the EXE file and copy to target PC. If target PC has the run time engine used with the EXE, then you shouldn't need to create the installer. This might be a work around to get your application running without using an installer.

Good luck

Hello Craig,

Is there a way to uninstall 2012f5 so my target machine doesn't require XP SP3 for installer to work?

Thanks!

Hey Shannon,

When you installed 2013 there were shared components that were upgraded on your system. This could include MAX as well as many drivers that have the hard requirement for SP3. To properly allow it to work you will need to make sure to remove all of these upgraded components.

The hard part of this is that I cannot point to every component that may have been upgraded. Because of this you may want to remove everything and reinstall the versions you want.

In your case of trying to stick with XP SP2 this is inconvenient, but in general it is the intended behavior for shared components to be on the latest version possible.

For your next software release you should probably test against and maybe even require SP3 for target machines. This is not simply to be compatible with newer NI software but also a really important security measure, check out Microsoft's update notes for the service pack:

Has there been any resolution on this.

I desperately wish to install LV 2012 SP1 f5 patch as I believe the random crasehs I have are due to:

the thread memory contention.

I cannot update to Windows XP SP3 due to some OEM software that is not verified for SP3 adn is know to hand if installed.

thanks

Hey Michael,

This was mentioned a bit farther back in the thread. Unfortunately, LabVIEW 2012 is not supported on Windows XP SP2 at all, and this might also be why you are experiencing random crashes.

The CAR that was filed back in October was just to correct the typo in the application builder which implies that the installation builder can run on Windows XP SP2.
