@blum22, I actually followed that process when leaving my last employer so I could retain my forum history. Like you, I have a ghost license from that employer still tied to my account. Transferring licenses has never been so easy for me. Unfortunately it usually requires intervention from NI via a support request, email, or phone call.

License-wise, if you go to "my products", you will see that the drop-down menu next to your listed software has a "transfer software license" option. In my experience it works fine.

This morning I created the new "work" account and tried transferring the licenses, but woops, I tried to "unregister" from the personal, then "register" on the work account. Now all those licenses are in limbo "registration in progress" on the line item and "registration failed; contact NI" banner across the top. So I opened the usual support request - hopefully they can fix it quickly, I just want to use this supposedly free, easy on-ramp Community Edition 😄

I feel your pain!  LabVIEW Community Edition licensing was an unofficial beta test for the subscription licensing, and it was a nightmare in the beginning.  And apparently it still is.  😞

Just imagine having the same issues with your paid for subscription license.  Ugh.

Ironically, I take more issue with the free license being a PITA to setup. I've been following the whole perpetual/subscription debacle and one of NI's big talking points is that it's OK to make paid-LabVIEW less accessible to new developers (by forcing subscriptions that are basically only justified for full-time developers), because the new devs can simply use CE on the side to hone their skills until they get a full-time LabVIEW position.

But now that I'm trying to use CE myself, I see its marketing is buried, the registration is a mess (and has been, according to many forum posts). On top of that, the only language improvements they seem to make are more/better/different ways to use Python instead of LabVIEW. The writing feels clearly on the wall: NI wants to EOL LabVIEW. Sad times 😢

Hi guys,

OK, I have reported this to NI as a bug report, and have just received the following reply :

"Thank you for reporting this issue with the LabVIEW Community Edition.Once you start the download, being logged in with your ni.com profile, a LabVIEW Community Edition license should be registered under your profile, which is what can then be used to activate.I have reproduced the issue with the LabVIEW 2023Q1 Community Edition, it does not seem to be making this license registration as it should. I am reporting this to the responsible team. Also, when I tried to start the download of LabVIEW 2022Q3 CE with the test profile, it did attach the license for LabVIEW Community to that profile and I was able to activate the 2023Q1 version as well with this license. It is possible that this license assignement is just not working on the 2023Q1 version download.Could you also try starting the download of one of the earlier versions? (Just starting the download is sufficient, you can cancel it once the file has started downloading onto your computer.) "

I am about to try this suggestion, and will report back shortly.  Anyone else like to try it also ?

Thank you Paul, I downloaded 2022Q3 and it immediately put a Community License in my account with no problems. Then I was able to activate 2023Q1. Thanks for getting this answer from NI!

And I'd like to apologize to NI for the negative comments about giving up on LabVIEW, whereas this seems to have been an honest bug with a newly released software version.

Thanks all for the support, and I am in the process of forking my work/personal accounts per everyone's advice.

Hi again everyone,

I 've just had the following reply from NI on this issue :

" I have heard back from my colleagues that the error that caused the license not to be assigned with the 2023Q1 version should be fixed now.So, you can also try starting the 2023 download again and it should now add the license to your account.Best regards,Bendeguz JuhaszStaff Technical Support Representative | NI "

So hopefully this issue has now been resolved, and we can all get going 😊

I realize this is LV Community Edition 2020, but the license info should look the same.

The fact that I don't see it listed makes me wonder if you downloaded the wrong flavor by accident.

Yes, but it can not be done with Firefox, Firefox and Labview will both hang.

Before starting up Labview, change the preferred browser to Chrome, then activate Labview 2023 Q1.

If you want online help, you should keep Chrome as the preferred browser, because Firefox and Labview will not interact properly with each other.

After activation, you can restart Labview and reset the preferred browser to Firefox (if you don't use online help).

I am using Linux Mint based on Ubuntu 20.04

It was so preposterous that I had to try it... and it hung just like you said.  😄
