You are correct, the way laptop manufacturers deal with standby and power management varies, and don't always follow the same implementation/guidelines, which causes problems. We closely follow the USB 2.0 standard, drawing minimal current until the host controller grants permission to draw full power for normal DAQ operation.
I have tried entering standby and waking it up with the Lenovo S10 and it did not give me any problems.
If you can give me a specific test, I can try it on the S10 and confirm for you.

I've got someone doing some tests at the moment on a 'netbook' (EeePC). Someone here had one lying around at home doing nothing and was happy for us to do some experimenting with it. I'll let you know how it goes.
