Attempting to read a PPL palette menu results in LabVIEW crash

Any ideas on why attempting to open a PPL palette file using the in-built 'Read palette.vi' crashes LabVIEW?

The attached 'Read palette hang.vi', which uses the FNV-1a PPL, occasionally works, sometimes hangs and sometimes crashes.

'Read palette crash.vi', which uses the String PPL, consistently crashes LV on my machine.

I've tried this on other PPLs which also seem to result in a crash.

Why I'm even doing this:

I was attempting to resolve a build error that occurred when the build tool failed to modify a specific PPL's palette file.
