I ran across this suggestion from the idea exchange while trying to figure out how to make the selected and hover states of a button different sizes or positions. I decided to reproduce that poster's issue, where a button in one state would cover one or more controls. It turned out that the last post on that idea suggestions was the key to making it work: If you are editing a button control, which allows you to edit the 4 or 6 images that represent the true/false/selected/hover states of the button, you can select a menu item that says "Independent Sizes". This allows the placement and positioning of the images at different sizes and positions, but the control appears not to work once placed on a block diagram; the images jump around unpredictably. The trick is that you must turn this option off once your images are inserted and placed where you want them. I consider this a bug.
Another thing I learned is that LabVIEW (LV23, Windows) will not import True/False/Decal pngs from the clipboard if they were copied to the clipboard in another application or the OS finder. I had to first drag and drop png files onto the block diagram, then copy and paste them into the control editor.
I've attached an example. Hope this helps someone else!
