Can I upgrade version 4 files to 8.5?

I have some version 4 files then when I try to open in version 8.5, I get an error message saying I can not open these with this version of LabView. Is a converter available to allow me to upgrade my version 4 files?

As far as the que goes, NO you cannot open ver 4 VIs in 8.5. Smiley Sad

Even 5.1 VIs dont open... Smiley Surprised

You ve to open them in an intermediate version like 6.x or 7.x & then upgrade them to 8.5.

Search google for any converters.

At one point there was/is a LabVIEW VI Conversion Kit, which is available free of charge from National Instruments. The part number of this kit for Windows and Macintosh is 776874-03. One time I had a vi created in version 3, I forwarded it to my Sales Rep for NI and he coverted it over to version 8 for me.

This is becoming a common problem.  It would seem that NI could do these conversions via a web interface, to convert between versions... but the user would need to understand what impacts those could have.  Hey NI... I think people are really starting to make alittle noise... and imagine it is going to only grow louder and louder.  Sorry I don't have an answer for you right now... BTW the conversion kit only takes it up to version 4 unless they have added on to it... but I have seen that version 6 is free to download "for personal use" but if you have an 8.5 license then you are licensed for previous versions as well. My $.02

Hi all,

It is actually a bit a new one this.  Version 4.x and later could be opened in LV8.2, but now 8.5 has restricted this to 6.x and later.

If you need the conversion kit, this will convert version 2.x to 4.x.

It might be worth calling your local NI office and we may be able to help you out with this conversion.  The UK office number is 01635572410 just call up and create and service request.

Thanks

AdamB

p.s just to be clear, if you have a license for LabVIEW 8.5 this does not necessarily mean you have a license to use LabVIEW 6 (or any other version of LabVIEW)  It might be worth looking at the license agreement again if you are confused.

As far as licensing goes, That maybe true... Or not.  I have one valid 8.5 license.  I have installed 8.2, and 8.0 and validating using the license server with my 8.5 SN.  My inside rep told me that the license is backwards compatible. This is why if I have ONE license, and SSP.  I can not just sell my old copy, even if the license number changes. Besides, I really do not think NI stands to gain anything if someone is using an older version just to accomplish upgrades.  And because NI only sells the newest version, I do not see a conflict!
