I know this was in response to me. While you may be doing your code "your way for your reason" it doesn't mean that it is the correct way. My advice that I gave was to help you with your general coding skills and to help you write better code. Bad code may work but it is still bad code.
One thing I can add here is that using bad coding practices makes it much more difficult for developers to help a debugging/enhancement effort because they will not be able to easily follow the code and predict how it works. The harder it is to follow the code, the harder it is to predict whether or not a solution will work, and the lower the chance of the suggestion actually working. Conversely, using good practices enables the developers to concentrate on what the code is trying to do rather than how it is trying to do it, so the suggestions will be of much higher quality, and with a much greater chance of working.
