Develop for Windows CE device

I found this white paper about the usage of LabVIEW to develop applications for Windows CE devices, but it's not 100% clear to me.

Can I use LabVIEW 2015 to develop an application for a Win CE device?

Do I need a specific LabVIEW toolkit or module?

Which versions of Win CE are supported (6.0, 7.0, 2013)?

I'll be honest, I didn't think NI supported PDA devices any more...given that Pocket PC & Windows CE is pretty much dead in the water these days in favour of Windows Embedded 7, Windows RT, Android and iOS (i.e. smartphones & tablets).

Newer versions (I've just looked at LV 2013) have the Touch Panel Module - but that only supports certain devices running Windows Embedded Standard 7.

If your target is the consumer market, you're right: WinCE is almost dead because PDA devices are dead.

But if your target is the industrial embedded market, WinCE is alive and none of the other system is an alternative (for sure not iOS or Android); maybe WES7, but with some disadvantages.

For this reason, the question could be: is NI interested in industrial embedded market or not?

I mean, with third party hardware (not with NI hardware like cRIO, for example).

I personally think that if (and I don't know if this is the situation) NI doesn't support WinCE anymore is not because WinCE is dead, but because they want to push NI hardware (RIO devices) for industrial embedded market.

By my understanding the last version of LabVIEW that could be used for development of WinCE was 2013. I'd have to look around but I do believe that there is an update somewhere stating that they were ending development support for CE products after that.

And as much as you say that WinCE is alive and well, I think its a fact of NI simply moving on, even Windows themselves ceased product support for CE5.0 in Q4 2014. Which would make sense for LabVIEW to have 2013 as the last version to support it, why dupport something even its developers are no longer supporting.

For my CE work I still maintain an install of 2013 on an XP PC just in case there are any further development needs but in most cases it has proven easier to move onto WES7 or WES8, have not had a chance to try 10 embedded but it should be reasonable given the experience with Windows 10 elsewhere.
