Fast Fourier Transformation and Filtering

Hi, 

I am acquiring a signal where represents amplitude with time. I wish to use the Butterworth filter to cut the frequencies and smooth the curves, so the signals to be displayed and differentiated. 

1) Data are acquired with 85 KHz continuously. 

2) Max. Signal bandwidth is 42.5 kHz. 

What amount of cut off frequency can I use to smooth the curve based on any criteria in order to differentiate the graph?

If you are an Engineering student, you need to take a class in Signal Theory.  If you are not, find an Engineering Student who has taken Signal Theory and ask them for help.
