Flat sequence and stacked sequence

From a Numeric Constant to the Structures, all (most of ?) the functions and VIs of the LabVIEW library have the Description and Tip... property. The description field could also be an interesting place to put comments.

Here we come to something I'm missing/expecting for years.

Unfortunately, unless you use some technique to point out the documented elements of a diagram, there will be no way to be remembered of these comments when opening the VI. Right-clicking on every element of the diagram to open its description dialog box when looking for possible comments is definitely not acceptable !

Therefore, I would like to suggest NI to change the appearance of a function/VI when a description has been written. More, it would be useful if the description was displayed in some way when the mouse is over the element.

What do you think about this ? Do you use the description field ?

The context help window (ctrl+H) already does this, which is why I mentioned filling in the description for subVIs.

Yes, indeed. But it would be really helpful to have the same possibility for the description of all the components of a diagram.
Currently, the description field is not really useful. Does it make sense to write descriptions if it is so laborious to find and to read them ?

So once again, my dream :
  • The components with a description are highlighted on the diagram
  • The description is displayed when moving the mouse over a component

PS : I will join Graziano to correct your 1* rating...

This could be very annoying when wiring.

I think that is why NI has disabled the Tip at block diagram.

It will need a disable button, if implemented

Would it be more annoying than the context help ? What's about mouse over element + key combination to show the description ?
