How can I use a digital signal to trigger a linear encoder to start and stop sampling?

Could you repost the picture a little bigger?  I am having a hard time reading some of the text.  Thanks.

Sure thing.  Sorry about that -- the diagram was getting kinda big so I tried out the sizing options when inserting the pic.  Didn't realize the resizing would also break the snippet behavior.  Here goes again, this time using normal size which should work to drag and drop onto an empty block diagram.

ALERT! LabVIEW's subscription-only policy came to an end (finally!). Unfortunately, pricing favors the captured and committed over new adopters -- so tread carefully.

Could you make your lower Z axis channel a bufffered count or digital input task that is sync'd to the sample clock of the quadrature task.  In the lower loop just keep reading the buffer and inspecting for a Z axis edge.  The buffer index at this point can be used to index into the quadrature position buffer and you will have your Z axis marker.
