It means that the control isn't really grayed... it becomes slightly transparent !!
Stacking buttons and decorations won't slow the UI thread and force it to continously redesign the interface ?

It seems to me, the "grayed out"-colour is actually tinted with the background colour of the FP. Use a different BG colour than gray and you get ugly results.
