How to create simple GIF Animations

to create the image for the gif did you use Gimp?

I used your screenshoot and ms paint, which improved a lot from windows xp to windows 7, but the gif posted above is a just a 2 image animation, done quick and dirty.

For a more advanced animation, I strongly recomment to use a image processing suite like gimp.

personally, I would use IrfanView or LibreOffice Draw instead of GIMP, as the GIMP is a bit user-unfriendly.
