Thank you very much for your reply. It took me some time to find out the peculiarities of the code to communicate with the devices and I still have some small issues but in the general case it works fine. One thing that I found out is that once the camera connection fails, I will have to completely close and reopen LabVIEW otherwise the communication cannot be established and I spent a lot of time thinking it was an issue of the code. I just checked the USB power options and they are set as you recommended so it wasn't this that caused the connection to fail. I write this in hope that someone else might find it useful for the case that an error persists and it is not code related.
