Inquiry Regarding Migration from Windows 10 to NI Linux Real-Time on PXIe-8880 Controller

Dear NI Customer Support,
I am currently operating a NI PXIe-8880 controller with Windows 10 and LabVIEW 2018 (32-bit) installed. My application involves acquiring data from a multifunctional I/O module (PXIe-6238) and a sound and vibration module (PXIe-4480). Unfortunately, the Windows OS has become corrupted due to power supply fluctuations, which has hindered my ability to read data effectively.
I am considering migrating from Windows 10 to NI Linux Real-Time, as it supports both operating systems. However, before proceeding with this transition, I would like to explore any alternative solutions that might resolve my current issue without shifting to NI Linux Real-Time.

If migrating to NI Linux Real-Time is necessary, I would appreciate your guidance on the following:
Installation Process: What are the specific steps I need to follow to install NI Linux Real-Time on my PXIe-8880 controller? Are there any prerequisites or considerations I should be aware of before proceeding with the installation?
Data Acquisition Compatibility: Will my existing LabVIEW applications and configurations for the PXIe-6238 and PXIe-4480 modules function seamlessly after migrating to NI Linux Real-Time?
Recovery Options: Are there any recommended recovery options for restoring my Windows installation or repairing the corrupted OS before considering a complete migration?
Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to your prompt response regarding these inquiries.

Installation Process: What are the specific steps I need to follow to install NI Linux Real-Time on my PXIe-8880 controller? Are there any prerequisites or considerations I should be aware of before proceeding with the installation?

See Provisioning a Controller to the NI Linux Real-Time Operating System

However, NI PXI Linux RT is first supported in LabVIEW 2019. Make sure you have the license of LabVIEW and LabVIEW Real-Time Module 2019 or later.

Data Acquisition Compatibility: Will my existing LabVIEW applications and configurations for the PXIe-6238 and PXIe-4480 modules function seamlessly after migrating to NI Linux Real-Time?

Most of it, but some functions like ActiveX and Report Generation Toolkit are only supported on Windows.

Recovery Options: Are there any recommended recovery options for restoring my Windows installation or repairing the corrupted OS before considering a complete migration?

  • Get the Windows 10 ISO image online, then connect to the internet to active the license after clean installation. See Activate Windows 10 on NI PXIe Controller
  • Purchase a Windows 10 IoT Enterprise USB Recovery Media For PXI (PN: 787269-03) from NI.
