Was preparing to post this, then while articulating my problem, figured it out. Posting anyway FYI:
Problem: I am trying to build a diagram on the front panel with pipes and after changing the orientation (flip or rotation), I drag the symbol to the FP and it maintains the original orientation.
Solution: Instead of dragging the symbol out of the "Symbols" page, drag it from the "Preview" area in the top left.
