Labview Linux

I am currently installing Labview 8.5.1 (Linux) on OPENSuse 10.3 that is supported by N.I.  Durring the installation I recieve an error that reads Kernel source in /Lib/modules/2.6.22.5-31-default/source does not appear to be configured for the 2.6.22.5-31-default kernel.  Configuration of kernel source is required  to continue installation.  I have looked at the help files and cannot decide what needs to get done.  Of course I am relatively new to Linux but would appriciate any and all information.

Hi Steve,

The installer needs the kernel source files and the saved configuration file for your currently compiled kernel. It looked in the default directory, but didn't fine the configuration file. Its possible that your configuration file was removed, the file currently installed is not for the source files it found, or was not included in the default installation. Check the package manager for a configuration file for your kernel. You may also try to update the kernel from the package manager and be sure to include the kernel source and header files. Updating or reinstalling the kernel will probably give you back your configuration file.

Or you could try to manually reconfigure your kernel in order to create this file, though kernel configuration and compilation is not for the feint of heart.

Captain Kirby,

Thanks for the info.  I am not sure where the config file is located and/or whether it has been altered or should be replaced?  Our MIS dept. here at the home office loaded Linux and I, as mentioned earlier, dont have much experience with Linux.  I am working on the transfer of the vi's I have written in XP to Linux SUSE Enterprise Edition to provide a web host from the home office.  I am using OpenSUSE on a test box in the lab.  Hopefully there are more people as yourself that will have answers to the many questions I will have in the near future.

TNx,

/steve

Hi Steve,

Yes, getting started in Linux can be a bit daunting, but when its working, it can be very rewarding. Finding your configuration file will vary depending on distribution, and is definitely something needed by many Linux installations. I'll bet your not the first SUSE person who has needed this file. Your best bet is to search through their documentation and forum for a person with a similar problem (not necessarily with LabVIEW either, because the make procedure LabVIEW uses is definitly not unique.) Hope this gets you moving in the right direction.

Hi yunxiong!

Have you checked the SUSE documentation and forums for other people with a similar issue?  If you are still having a problem with this, it would be in your best interest to create a new forum thread for this issue. Since this post is so old, you might not get very many responses.  Also, any responses would be referring to older versions of software and operating systems and properly won't prove very helpful.  Hope this helps and gets you moving in the right direction!
