Long wait for SAVE dialog, windows

Solved!
Go to solution

I just installed LV 2009 SP1 x32 on a W7 x64 platform.

Whenever I do something that calls up the SAVE AS dialog (native), I have to wait 60 seconds for it to pop up.  LabVIEW is locked until it comes up.  something's wrong.

Can't find any info about it here.  Reboot is not helping.  Any ideas?

I presume you're using Windows 7 (Pro?).

Tried repairing the LV installation?

2009 SP1 is in my experience still very buggy.  Repair usually helps, if only temporarily.

Grrrrr.  This is literally the first thing I have done after updating.  I'll try the repair.

Is the delay associated with a particular VI or Project?

Are there network drives involved (connected to the PC)?

Does the delay occur for any other applications?  Have you checked?

Not associated with any project.  It started up instantly after doing the install, and I haven't really done any thing with 2009 so far.  It happens any time the dialog is called for (first Save, Save As, loading the dialog when I can't overwrite a RO VI, when I click the Browse button on a path control).

Hmmm.  Yes, there are network drives.  I can try to disconnect them.  But this is the native control and it does not have this delay with any other program (I have checked).  It appears to be LV 2009 only.

After another reboot, other programs are starting to have trouble.  Double checked notepad "Open" before and it was OK.  Now stalling...

hold on...

Try turning off your anti-virus to see if that makes any difference.

I would also caution you against concluding that 2009 is "still very buggy" based solely on one person's comments. One person's experience does not make a product "very buggy".

Hello Jed,

Does the Windows 7 Performance monitor give any indication that there is a process starving the computer resources?

***NOT AN OFFICIAL NI POSITION***

I have a personal computer at home running Windows 7 x64, without LabVIEW. I had a very similar experience with file dialog operations, open, save, etc. The dialog windows would take a significant amount of time to display, 30+ Seconds. After some further investigation in the performance monitors, I found the Windows indexing service, originally implemented in Vista, was starving the processor, particularly blocking processes that had hard drive interaction. I find the new performance evaluation tools in 7, very intuitive and useful in cases, such as this.

***NOT AN OFFICIAL NI POSITION***

Additionally, if we find an NI process has blocked or altered the system state, we will certainly want to reproduce this on an x64 system for further investigation. Please post the results of you troubleshooting process, or any further questions you might have regarding the system.

Thank You,
