Hi folks...

Thanks for the good start on the icon library - I'm finding it more and more useful as it evolves.

Here are my requests:
How about a server icon?  Specifically, I'm about to make icons for my FPGA and Real-Time servers.  I see that there's something vaguely resembling a server under "target", but I wouldn't normally think to look there.  I'm thinking of stealing the little PXI and FPGA icons out of the 8.5 project explorer and using those - they'd work really well.

Thanks,

Jim F

Jim,

If under Browse by Concept Type you select Hardware, you will see all the different hardware images. In there are images for desktop RT Target, and PXI chassis and target. Do those work for you?

Hi i < 3,

Whoops, I hadn't even noticed the "Concept Type" option... There are some great hardware icons in there.  Thanks for the tip, and sorry that I wasn't very observant.

Jim

Wow, I was really impressed with this library. I am very happy that I didn't have to draw my own cRIO module for my current project.

Some wants: First,Fieldpoint and compact Fieldpoint modules, like the cRIO module above. I find myself drawing these for configuration VIs quite often. Also, a Stop sign: I find myself creating these to various levels of quality, and a standard would be nice. Next, a classic Connect and Disconnect icon featuring two cables and a D-sub joint either joined or separated. Finally, a Tree icon, like an actual Oak Tree. I saw the program tree icons, but I think the 'vegetative' icon is pretty cross cultural in meaning.

Kudos especially for: circular icons to cut and paste (until the circle tool in icon editor comes to fruition), as well as the 'Rumble' and 'IR' Wii-mote icons, they look great and I appreciate the nod to the hardware 'hacking' community.

Mellobuck,

Thank you for your suggestions on icons to include in the next update. I hope to get new ones added at the beginning of Q4, and will see what I can do to help you out.

As for your request for an "oak tree" -- we try very hard to not encourage the use of homonyms in icons, because of the difficulty in many cases of translation from English to other languages (a broom for "sweep" and footprints for "step" are two images we have replaced with more technically accurate glyphs). I have other tree images that have been used in our products that I will add instead. Hopefully that will help you out.

What happened to the excluded icons?
The zip file has a text file called 'icons_to_exclude' if I look at the contents than the icons can be very promising....

I noticed that the icon PNG files include tranparacy.  That's indeed very important when adding glyphs to an icon.   However, the Labview icon editor doesn't support transparacy.  That makes the glyphs very difficult to use in the icon editor !   You always destroy too much of the underlying icon.

I think the usability of the icon editor would dramatically increase when it supported transparacy.   Doesn't have to be true transparacy.  It simpy shouldn't write a pixel when it's the background color.   (Something similar to what MS-Paint does with it's 'transparant paste'.)

Another usefull feature would be anti-aliased text.   I now do that manually, and it can help a lot in some cases.

Finally, maybe the icon editor could have a scrapbook added...   Some extra part, where one can 'store'  often used parts of icons, and play with them, putting them together.   I now generally do that in MS-Paint, so that I can more easily try out some ideas on how to create the icon.   Maybe couple this scrapbook to the project or lv library...

To keep on-topic I'll also include an icon.

I didn't see any 'Front Panel'  icon. I have had a couple of vi's controlling acces to the front panel.  I used the following icon, together with a lock/unlock glyph at the bottom:

All hand-painted, so no copyrights. Smiley Tongue

The icon gallery that is available for download doesn't include all of the images that are embedded in the webpage (for instance the FPGA icons are missing).

Can you update the .zip file with all of the icons that are now available?

Thanks!
