Well, it's the second time I need to write this post, because after some hours of writing the original one https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Need-help-understandig-NI-linux-repositories/td-p/4411692 seems like someone has deleted it out of the blue for no apparent reason. I value my time so at least I would expect a reason onto why it has been deleted as it was properly written and a legit doubt about linux runtime engine installation. Who knows.

So as I didn't made a backup the first time I will start again trying to simplify it as much as possible.

1. When you want to install runtime engine for labview you go to the official web, select the OS (in this case linux) and the year and that's it.
2. It downloads a zip file, inside it there are some linux install files (.deb and .rpm). I install the one that belongs to my linux distribution and I thought that that.
3. But no, in fact it installs a linux repository: https://download.ni.com/ni-linux-desktop/LabVIEW/2024/Q3/f1/pro/rpm/ni-labview-2024/lp155
4. From that repository you can install labview runtime engine, but it's for a outdated linux version (lp155).
5. Also it's like a "hidden" repository, since inside https://download.ni.com/ni-linux-desktop/ there is no LabVIEW folder, but browsing the actual public folders you can find things like: https://download.ni.com/#ni-linux-desktop/2024/Q4/rpm/ni/lp156/ that are for the up to date version (lp156)
6. The final point is that even I can manually download a runtime engine file from there, I can't add the repository to my system since it doesn't have valid metadata

So my questions are:

1. There is a linux lp156 version of the runtime engine repository that I can't find in the "official" folders because they are hidden?
2. Are the public lp156 repositories like this or this intended to be used? Why I can't add them? It's a me problem or a general problem?
3. Are the runtime engines inside the lp156 repositories stable and intended to be used?
4. Is using the "official" runtime engine designed for lp155 into lp156 actually asking for trouble or it should work just as fine?

Hi everybody,

I know Linux isn't the king of the house here but I need to ask anyway.

I'm trying to install labview 2024 runtime engine on Linux. I downloaded it from the official download page and I get a zip file with some .rpm files (installers). I execute the one that corresponds to my distribution (opensuse) and for my suprise that file, even if it's named ni-labview-2024-runtime-engine-24.3.2.49152-0+f0-opensuse155.noarch.rpm, didn't install the labview runtime, but a repository from where the labview runtime can be installed.

That repo points to: https://download.ni.com/ni-linux-desktop/LabVIEW/2024/Q3/f2/runtime-engine/rpm/ni-labview-2024-runti...

Which is weird, because if you go to https://download.ni.com/#ni-linux-desktop/, there is no folder called LabVIEW and if you browse the actual repository is empty. So it's kind of a hidden repository.

But if you continue browsing the actual linux desktop folder you can find: https://download.ni.com/#ni-linux-desktop/2024/Q4/rpm/ni/lp156/ (and also https://download.ni.com/#ni-linux-desktop/stream/rpm/ni/lp156/)

Which is public and also contains a runtime engine installation file. The interesting part is that this file is for opensuse 15.6, the up to date version. The one in the repo installed by the official page is for the previous version (lp155 vs lp156). The counterpoint is that I haven't been able to add this other repo that contains the up-to-date runtime engine because it hasn't a valid repository metadata.

So my questions are:

 1. Are those other repos (lp156) with more up to date packages intended to be used?
 2. Are the runtime engines inside the lp156 folders considered a stable version and intended to be used?
 3. Why the actual "official" run-time engine repository is hidden and can't be browsed? Which doesn't allow to check if there is a newer version.
 4. Is installing the official repo (lp155) on opensuse leap 15.6 actually asking for trouble?

I don't know about Linux installations, but your other thread does seem to be there, and is linked to from your profile:

I know that the spam filters do sometimes have false positives, so maybe that's what happened, although I believe only a manual operation would restore it if that was the case. I'm merging it into this one, just so the discussion isn't split.

Thanks for your help, but it wasn't there before, as it simply returned an error page saying that the page was removed and something like that. Also, it didn't appear in my profile.
