Novice student -> DAQmx

Hi, I'm an Italian student, and I'm approaching Labview for an exam.
I installed the program on my PC, but reading my exercises, I could not
find DAQmx assistant in the functions palette.
My prof told me to install the Device Driver, but my question is: once
installed, how can I configure it? I mean, the exercises are about
temperature sensors, or voltage sensors, so do I have to install just
one device simulator, or one for each device?
I hope someone can help me.

Correct, you will have to use the device driver CD to install Daqmx.

For most things, you would just have to create a virtual device in Measurement & Automation Explorer.  A multifunction DAQ card would give analog inputs and outputs, and digital inputs and outputs.  There are so many different model numbers, I don't know which would be the best one to simulate, but probably any would do.  You can also simulate SCXI chassis, their cards, and their accessories.  Simulating an SCC chassis would also give you the ability to select different signal conditioning modules for things like thermocouples and strain gages.

Start with one simulated PCI device.  If that doesn't give you all you need, then look into simulating an SCC signal conditioning module or SCXI chassis.
