Ocean Optics USB4000 Spectrometer

I have come to the realization that one cannot change the diffraction grating and with the available USB programming software from OO can create the desired settings. The number one reason is the limitation of the access of the data in eeprom of the unit  from OO. The areas that would allow the changes to associate with the new specs (new diffraction grating inlet orifice etc) are within there control (proprietary access). I will revert the unit to the original settings and pursue a different unit to achieve my goal with a different detector etc. I dont have the budget to send the unit to manufacturer and do not want to monkey around and waste my time.

Hi,

Just for the record. We tried helping even though this is a very specific second hand unit. Actually access to the EEPROM coefficients is very doable and available from Ocean-Side for our partners. Changing the EEPROM coefficients alone will not change the groove density of the grating that has been installed. For the intended configuration, we had an extended discussion and offered support, but the opto-mechanical changes required for converting this high res unit to the intended target configuration goes way beyond reprogramming the EEPROM. Several optical components including grating and detector would have to be swapped out to achieve the target configuration. Please feel free to reach out to me and my colleagues. ideally via EMEATTS or TTS@oceanoptics.com.

Best Regards, Oliver

oliver just for curiosity sake what would it cost me to send this unit and for the changes to be implemented?

Thanks,

George

Hi George,

i would need to get this to one of our sales crew for running the numbers. Where are we concerning the parts and components? So, you have the grating, but it would still need detector with order-sorting filter? What kind of grating did you put in? An OSF needs to match the grating. Can you send me an update via email (oliver.lischtschenko@oceanoptics.com)? That would be good.

Cheers, Oli

#10 diffraction grating with 000 filter and a fiber optic input (slit 000) AWL (TS1) M(S) is what i have would like a better spread in wavelength towards the Uv etc.

Thanks
