Pattern constraint in File Dialog Express VI not working

Solved!
Go to solution

Here it works in Windows.

Where is the Mac equivalent of the file extension selector in your screenshots?

Here is what it looks like on my Mac:

There does not appear to be a file extension selector option on the File Dialog Express VI.  These are all of the options.

Thanks for the thoughts,

Curiously, setting the properties such that only folders are visible works fine (though still not with the pattern constraint).  I am trying to think up a workaround; but it isn't clear to me yet.

Try opening the Example Finder and going to Fundamentals>>File Input and Output>>Read From Text File.  See if you can implement the open file part of this example into your VI and see if this works for you.  Remember to Give a pattern name as well as the pattern.  This should allow you to filter the files.  Now note on a Mac it will still show the files that you are not interested in, they should just be grayed out.

Hmm.  Yep.  That doesn't work either.  I tried modifying the "Read From Text File.vi" by adding a pattern constraint and label (see picture below). Neither the constraint nor the label appeared.  It looks pretty clear that their is a bug in the File Dialog routines for the Mac.

Thanks for the ideas,

I would suggest at this point that you uninstall and then reinstall LabVIEW from your machine.  I was able to get this to work on a Mac using 10.6.4, as well as 10.5.8 as you can see from the screen shots on my previous posts.  It seems like it could be an issue with your machine.

Hi Brandon,

I tried a complete de-install (I ran the uninstall script, and deleted the directory structure containing my old versions of LV) and reinstall, with a result of no difference.  It looks exactly the same.
As an aside, I am also working this with Sean via voice, Reference #7302620.  He suggested the same thing.

Since you just reinstalled LabVIEW, you might want to also delete the preferences file.  This is located in \\users\yourShortName\Libraries\Preferences.  The file is called LabVIEW.app version Preferences.

I just deleted all of my preferences, and the file dialogs remain exactly the same; no pattern constraint is applied, and no pulldown appears.  Very weird.  What's next?

This is very interesting.  You mentioned that you were using OS 10.6, but what hardware are you using specifically?
