I'm using LabVIEW 2009, Win XP sp3... I've had it happen more than once.
Ok, so I just went in and tried to get it to do it so I could figure out the process by which it's happening, but now I can't get it to do it. I'll mess with it some more and see if I can make it reproducable.

Yair's method should work. In LabVIEW 2009 there 's even a special method placed on the Application\Menus palette to reload the VI palettes.

Ok, I found what you guys were talking about... which would be effective if I was wanting to embed the updating feature into a VI, but I'm just wanting to update the palette as I'm working. I'm guessing there should be a relatively easy way to setup a button on the tool bar to do this, but being such a noob I don't know that much yet. I'll dig around and see if I can come up with something.
Thanks,

Using the method is quite easy. Just drop it in a VI and run the VI once.
If you need to do this a lot, save the VI somewhere.
If you really need this a lot, place the VI in the <LabVIEW>\Project folder and it will appear in your Tools menu after you restart LV.
Personally, I rarely do this, because refreshing the paletts takes a lot of time, and I don't need this enough.
P.S. As for your other issue, to dismiss the palette editing mode, you need to get to the dialog which allows you to save or cancel your changes. I've noticed that sometimes it tends to hide under the rest of the LV windows, so if you still want that, you can try minimizing all the other LV windows and you will probably find it.
