Setting Up Labview 7.1 with Tektronix TDS3034B

Hi there, I'm a student intern trying to do some data acquisition with Labview 7.1. The scope I'm using is a Tektronix TDS 3034B, and it is connected through ethernet. I'm having some trouble getting started. All the software and drivers have been installed, but I can't seem to get Labview to communicate with the scope.

I'm not very computer savvy, so please give me detailed instructions, or point me in the right direction. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Jon

Did you add the instrument in MAX (Measurement & Automation Explorer). If not, start MAX and in the left hand window, right click on Devices and Interfaces and select Create New... When the window pops up, select VISA TCP/IP Resource. I think your scope is a VXI-11instrument so you should be able to select Auto-detect or Manual Entry. Which one to use will depend on how you set up the instrument's IP address.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. That got me on my way, but I'm still having trouble when it asks for the "Hostname" and "LAN Device Name." I've tried all different combinations of IP addresses and anything that could possibly be interpreted as a device name. What exactly am I supposed to put int those two boxes

I know the scope is conected to the network, and I can ping the scope from the computer.

I don't remember exactly where I got the LAN device name the times I did this. It may have been in the manual or in one of the setup screens for the instrument. Did you try the auto-detect? The last time I setup an Ethernet instrument, I configured it for a fixed IP on a dedicated subnet of mine.

Hi,

The attached knowledgebase article explains how to connect to an Ethernet controlled oscilloscope using LabVIEW.

Start with the driver. At eht Instrument Driver Network, check the links on what a driver is and how to use it. The driver has an example that shows how to display scope data on a LabVIEW graph.

Read the information at the link again. There are two downloads available. They are clearly labeled as LabVIEW 8 and LabVIEW 7. It sounds like you downloaded the LabVIEW 8 one.
