Verifying Missing Vision Runtime

Solved!
Go to solution

I'm attempting to verify if the issue I am having with a VI is purely due to lack of a Vision License, or if there is some other issue. I have a VI that, when opened is unable to find "IMAQdx.ctl". When the (previously) compiled version is opened, it is unable to find "niimaqdx.dll".

I have the 2018 Vision Runtime installed in Evaluation mode but there has been no change to these errors. Is that not the point of the eval version? I just want to ensure that these VIs are correctly functional with the runtime before purchasing it to run on the deployment machine.

Is it Activated?  I've (several times) installed VDM and VAS, only to find that IMAQdx functions were missing.  I once even called NI Support, who asked "Did you activate it?".

Duh ...

It sounds like it could be this, how to I activate it? It shows the VDM 2018 in the license manager with the yellow circle and "evaluation" written next to it. I had assumed that it was "active" as the evaluation version until the 7 day timer runs out. Is there an additional step?

Well, I've never used Evaluation mode.  In my case, an Unactivated button is light green.  When I click the Button, it starts the Activation procedure (which often involves my logging in to NI) and after some hand-shaking, the button turns bright green.  So try clicking the Yellow Circle.

That's what I'm trying to understand is if this VI is online missing a Vision Runtime or if there is some other issue.

I had assumed that the evaluation version of the runtime would make everything work, at least for the duration of the evaluation license. It's still not working, but again I'm not confident that the evaluation version works as I interpret, which is my reason for the question.

Open MAX, expand the Software Tab, and post a Screenshot.  To use IMAQdx, you'll need NI-IMAQdx, and probably need Vision Common Resource and Vision Development Module.

I posted, today, a similar listing from my Laptop showing my installed Software working with a Grasshopper3 Camera (look for the Post "Error Install NI Vision Development Module 2018").  You seem to be missing NI-IMAQdx, which are the Driver files that communicate with USB and GigE cameras that support the GenICam protocol.  This requires that the Vision Acquisition System needs to be installed and Activated.

That did it! Installing this version (http://www.ni.com/download/ni-vision-acquisition-software-18.5/7840/en/) got me all the IMAQ drivers under evaluation, and actually popped up a screen to "activate" the evaluation once I tried to use it. Thanks!
