Why does my LabVIEW 2010 Program ask for the LabVIEW 8.5.1 run-time engine every time it is launched after being installed?

Solved!
Go to solution

It is a simple timer program that shows the elapsed time (see attached pics). I can't think of a single thing that should be causing this ... It started happening right after I selected scale objects with front panel resizes and recompiled, and re-installed the app. It was not happening before that when installed without the selection of resizing, but then I removed the selection and it still happens. Any Ideas would be appreciated.

A bit more info:

If I cancel through all of the dialog boxes (see attached) when trying to launch my little app, it runs normally. Looks like it really doesn't need the 8.5.1 engine after all.

Now it's happening when I open LabVIEW itself from a fresh reboot. I had to cancel through half a dozen dialog boxes saying that I don't have the 8.5.1 runtime engine just to start LabVIEW!?!?

How do I get this to stop? Why did it start in the first place? Why is LabVIEW set on loading the 8.5.1 run-time engine?

It sounds to me like LabVIEW isn't properly linked to your run-time environment. Did you labview 2010 install execute properly when you ran it originally? Have you tried installing the latest runtime? Have you checked NI License Manager for what product is activated currently? It might be worth installing the latest runtime just in case. Is there a reason you might be using 8.5.1? I'll be looking into your issue further, but the more information the better. I don't believe it's a problem with your VI. I think it is most likely a problem with your LabVIEW install, but more information will be necessary to be sure. Worst comes to worst, repairing/reinstalling LabVIEW is always an option which has a high probability of success (even if it is a bit time consuming, it may be less time consuming that isolating the problem - or it may be necessary in order to isolate the problem if that doesn't fix it).

The LabVIEW 2010 SP1 Upgrade seemed to go as planned except for the fact that it remains unregistered even though I tried registering it after the fact. It just doesn't seem to "take". The program does show as activated. I have not tried installing the latest run-time engine, but I must admit, I thought that got installed indirectly with Labview 2010 apps with their installers? I've never used 8.5.1, although I downloaded the run-time engine last night and installed it just to see if it would stop the messages ... it didn't. The earliest version I've ever used, besides 7.1, is 8.6. I do have 8.6 and 2009 SP1 installed on this PC. If I try to re-install 2010 SP1, do I need to or should I remove those two versions first or at all? The VI sources of the VI's in question, from the VI properties dialog, says it's 10.0, but according to the LabVIEW startup screen the version is 10.0.1. Is this significant?

Reinstalling LabVIEW did not work. It still asks for the 8.5.1 Run-time Engine.

LabVIEW 2010 SP1 is still showing as Unregistered on the startup screen. It asked if I wanted to use an existing activation code or get a new on. I chose to use the old one could this make a difference? I upgraded to LabVIEW 2010 SP1 on another laptop and it shows that it is registered. I'll try the project over there and see what happens ...

It doesn't ask for the 8.5.1 Run-time Engine on my second laptop using the same source files and a fresh registered Upgrade of LabVIEW 2010 SP1. hmmmm. What next?

Have you tried running a repair on the LabVIEW 2010 install from the Add/Remove Programs menu? Also you might consider running a mass compile on your project.

The repair did not work, and honestly, why should it given that the complete re-installation did not work? The Mass Compile did not work either. After the repair the SN has now vanished from the startup screen and it is still showing unregistered. I am now ready to uninstall all NI software from this machine in an effort to fix this.

Have you tried uninstalling the 8.5 RTE before reinstalling LabVIEW or the newest run-time?
