Why squashed font in context HELP window for one control?

OK, how come and whyfor does the font used in the HELP window for this one control get vertically squashed?

It's a huge data structure: a typedef containing typedefs that contain typedefs, etc., etc.,

Did it finally get too big for LV to handle?

And why does the font in the middle return to normal size, when it's shrunk at the beginning and shrunk at the end?

Here is a JING to show the effect:

JING

Notice how the font gets normal as I scroll down in the middle, and then small again.

Weird.

Hi CoastalMaineBird,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. How large of a VI do you have there? This is definitely unexpected behavior. I have not found any kbs on this topic. I’d suggest that you report this to our idea exchange website.

Hope this helps,

The vi has nothing to do with it.  It's the help screen for a control.  It's describing an instance of a (admittedly huge) TYPEDEF'ed control.

Hi CoastalMaineBird,

Could you lay out the steps for creating this typedef? Please be as detailed as possible. We will try to reproduce this behavior at our end. Once we have confirmed the issue. We will go ahead and file a CAR on your behalf.

You've got to be kidding.  There are probably a thousand items in the cluster, when you dig all the way down. It has evolved over seven years or more.  No way am I spending the time to describe how to create all that - I'm just not that invested in it.

It's not a user-visible thing, so it's not pretty. It's just to describe a data file structure.

I have made a duplicate of the control and attached it here.  The main thing is in Libraries\HDT DataHandling.llb\HDT Data File Header.ctl

Place one of those on an empty panel and ask for control-H help.

I have verified that this duplicate does the same weird thing as shown in the JING: the lines are squashed at the beginning and end, and normal in the middle.

I'm on Win Vista, LV 2010.0 (not SP1).

I see the same effect on my Mac, so it is probably not a platform issue.

I should mention that it's only recently that I noticed this weirdness.

It wasn't always this way.

It might have started when I switched to LV 2010 from LV 8.6.1 (about December).

It might have happened when I added more stuff to the thing in February.

I just happened to notice it - I don't consult the help for that at all.

So I don't know when exactly it started.

OK I have attached another version.

This one is from December, 2010, in LV 8.6.

If I open it in LV 8.6, the HELP window looks perfectly normal.

If I open the very same file in LV 2010, it shows the squashed effect.

Don't know about LV 2009.

Again, the main thing to open is in Libraries\HDT DataHandling\HDT DataFile Header.ctl

Hi Steve,

Thank you for uploading both the LV 8.6 and 2010 version of the files. I was able to successfully reproduce the behavior you described in this post. In addition, I have passed this information to our R&D department so that they can investigate it for future releases. Thank you again for your input.

Best regards,
