myRIO

Team,

I cannot get myRIO device to talk to my LabVIEW 2020 SP1 x64 software. As you can from the the myRIO picture, both selection are grayed out on the Getting Started with NI myRIO dialog box. In addition, I don't see anything about a myRIO device in Templates. Is there something I have to license to get the myRIO device to work? Thanks for the help.

At the present time, there is no myRIO Toolkit for LabVIEW 2020.  This enables an Operating Environment called "myRIO" that includes specific tools and sub-VIs specific to the myRIO.  I've installed a working environment in LabVIEW 2019 SP1 (32-bit) and in previous versions of LabVIEW (back to 2014 or so, also 32-bit).  I've tried to do the same for LabVIEW 2020 (32-bit), including the SP1 release, but without the myRIO Toolkit, "getting started" with myRIO is something of a challenge.

I am unsure why no Toolkit was released for LabVIEW 2020 (you can install it, but it doesn't "integrate" into the LabVIEW environment to provide you access to the myRIO-specific Operating Environment).  I'm pretty sure the myRIO hardware will continue to be available for the next few years, but have no idea if the myRIO Toolkit will be available for LabVIEW 2021 or later editions.

Bob,

Thanks for replying. I was able to communicate with myRIO device by removing LabVIEW 2020 x64 and installing LabVIEW 2020 x32. I was able to upgrade the myRIO firmware and download LabVIEW 2020 x32 to the myRIO device. However, I don't see any of the myRIO Templates. If I could figure out how to get the myRIO Templates installed I think I could start my projects. Do you think the projects are missing because there has not been a 2020 myRIO toolkit?

Yes.  LabVIEW 2020 does not support the myRIO Toolkit, as there is no myRIO Software Toolkit for LabVIEW 2020 (at least at this time).

If you want to use myRIO, you should investigate installing LabVIEW 2019 (32-bit), LabVIEW 2019 Real-Time Toolkit, and the LabVIEW 2019 myRIO Software Toolkit.  Depending on your license, you might need to contact NI and discuss this with them.  I haven't (yet) investigated whether one could take a LabVIEW 2020 system and install a LabVIEW 2019 system "on top of" this (as opposed to removing all NI Software and doing a "fresh install" of LabVIEW 2019, something that I know works).  Unfortunately, I'm working on an important Project, and don't have time to test fixes for NI's myRIO problems for them (however, I was able to report this to them, and they were able to confirm, for me, that there was an issue with LabVIEW 2020).

P.S. -- if you do go the "uninstall/reinstall" route, be sure to look up how to safely uninstall all NI software.  It has been described multiple times in this Forum (several times by me), and can also be found by doing a search on the Web.  Be sure to do the equivalent of "Remove All" for National Instruments Software.

I have a MyRIO that WAS working fine on a LabVIEW 2014 system for years, (now Windows 10 after upgrade). Earlier this week something went awry in the 2014 Real Time Module, so went to web site to download and re-install. Big mistake could only get 2019 Real Time Module (so Standard Support Program here), now this system is at 2019 SP1 but with a 45 day license! I cannot activate of course from the 2014 MyRIO packaging..

I don't have the original install media, the license tags on the box are useless for activation. This is for my academic research supporting Light EV component testing - we have no budget to upgrade to CRIO frame or whatever.

So I guess the main option:

 * call NI and see what the SSP costs will be to come up to 2019 level or down to 2014 (preferably do both on different systems and test).

Fallback option:
 * port this to Raspberry Pi board, but is a Raspberry Pi board fully supported as a target in 2019 or 2020 academic edition?

Any other options?  Thanks, Mark

Mark,

I'm picking up on "for my academic research".  If you are at an Academic institution, see if you can "join in" the Academic License.  What you definitely want to do is to install LabVIEW 2019 (not LabVIEW 2020!), and the myRIO Software Toolkit 2019 (there appears to be no 2020 Toolkit).  With a full installation, you can (re-)install the myRIO firmware and get your myRIO "in synch" with your PC.
