Distributing MAX for Customers Use

Hi,

I am developing a real-time PXI-based system using LabWindows/CVI Real-Time.  Our customer will receive the rack and interface to it using UDP - they have no 'knowledge' about the software running on the PXI RT controller apart from how to control it with the UDP data they are sending.  They have requested that we include some kind of maintenance mode/software which will allow us to test the outputs (using a set of known inputs) from the rack at system installation/problem finding etc but not using their UDP interface.  Is it possible to distribute a copy of MAX to the customer so they can follow some set procedure to check the outputs from the system?  We obviously have a development licence here to develop the system but where does this leave us in terms of distributing the NI software to the customer?  Would we have to pay extra?

Thanks

Martin

Hi Martin,

I believe there is a way of distributing MAX to a customer. A fairly simple way would be to include a piece of software in the deployment that requires MAX. Or if you could give the customer a small driver that requires MAX this would mean that your customer would be able to use it.

For example, if you included an NI-VISA driver in the package that your customer recieves, they will also receive MAX. Its the same principle if your were to include, say a DAQmx driver.

As far as licensing goes. VISA is free to anyone that has already purchased a product from National Instruments. Here are some links that explain the licensing subject a bit more.
