Thanks for the interst.

We have had no luck on either of the remote interfaces provided on this instrument GPIB or parallel input.

The manufacturers were helpful as far as they could unfortunately this instrument has been obsolete for over 15 years now so other than the manual that was it.

Dear Simon,

I came across these two articles that you may find useful if you are still troubleshooting

Have you tried going into MAX and selecting Tools -> NI-488.2 -> Interactive Control and trying some of the commands through this. 

This has been going on a while now, so I am sure you have tried nearly everything under the sun but here are a couple more things to have a go and hopefully have some joy.
