Hello,
recently I had upgraded my home computer to CVI10.0.1 to enjoy the many bug fixes; everything went fine but I had to learn that my SSP had expired leaving me without a valid license for SP1. So I de-installed 10.0.1 and re-installed CVI 10.0.0. No apparent problem appeared, but since then I have to active my license every time I start my computer.
Activation works o.k. but after (re-)starting the PC the status of the license manager always tells me: 'activated for a different computer' - so I have to activate CVI everytime I start the computer...
Any suggestions of how to resolve the issue? (Win 7 64 bit, CVI 10.0 FDS)
Thanks,
Wolfgang

Hello Wolfgang,
the activation of NI needs a ComputerID normally unique for every PC. The only way your acvitvated CVI gets not activated or the error occur "activated for another computer" is, when the ComputerID changed in anyway.
Please have look after your restart at the "NI license manager" there you can see your ComputerID, does it change everytime?
Normally the ID is generated out of the Macadress, so if the computerID change the Macadress the system uses has change. Do you have several networkadapter?

Tobias

Hello Tobias,
Thanks a lot for your reply!
1) Indeed, the computer ID changes, too. I have kept the last two confirmation emails from NI product activation and can confirm that they report two different computer ID's (while the computer hardware is unchanged).
2) Yes, the computer has two Gbit network adapters, for internet and NAS. However, both are factory installed and have not been touched since then.
Best regards,
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,
you can either deactivate one networkadapter and only use the other one or you can force your License manager to generate the computerID out of the hdd volumeid.
This is possible, but therefore you need nonpublic informations from National Instruments. Please send me a personal message with your email, then we can handle it outside this forum.

Tobias

OK,
in case someone else might face a similar problem: it appears that the NI license manager was confused by the fact that my computer is equipped with two network cards. NI (TobiasK) assisted me privately to resolve the problem so there is no public solution...

May be I should add explicitly that the initial subject of the thread is misleading: the problem is not directly caused by the downgrade 10SP1 ->10 but due to the PC hardware...

Unfortunately, activation of CVI 2012 still does not work automatically if the computer is equipped with two network cards.
This is something that should be improved, every upgrade requires extra effort...

Unfortunately, activation of CVI 2012 still does not work automatically if the computer is equipped with two SSD's / network cards.
I would like to escalate this topic - it is REALLY annoying not to have a valid license after a regular, paid update just because the computer is a bit less standard... This hardware configuration results in a new computer-ID after every reboot, thus invalidating the previous activation.
I had fixed it after a few days with intense personal support from NI for CVI2010, now with CVI2012 the problem starts again (and the former NI employee has left, unfortunately)

Unfortunately, yes. While I am in private contact with NI, the issue has not been resolved yet - but I am a patient and optimistic person.
One day, hopefully before installing CVI2013, I may be allowed to reboot without having to re-activate my licence...
