Hello,
NI Update Service offers the new CVI2015. There is a note that this "installation does not replace other versions of LabWindows/CVI".
I would like to replace my 2013 version with the new one (while keeping the user settings as much as possible).
What is the recommended way - first deinstall CVI2013? Or deinstall it after installing CVI2015?
Thank you.

Hello Wolfgang!
The text found in the description of LabWindows/CVI 2015 upgrade is informing users that if you have an older version of LabWindows/CVI, installing the LabWindows/CVI 2015 upgrade will not uninstall the older version. LabWindows/CVI 2015 will be installed next to your older version. In your case, when installing the upgrade, LabWindows/CVI 2015 will be installed next to LabWindows/CVI 2013, so you will have both versions on your machine.
We always recommend using the newest version of LabWindows/CVI and installing the latest patches and service packs because it will always contain improved and new features, as well as bug fixes. However, you are free to keep and also use your older version of LabWindows/CVI if you are required to do so.
Make sure you read the LabWindows/CVI 2015 Release Notes and stay tuned for more Community announcements regarding this release, to find out more about the benefits featured in LabWindows/CVI 2015.
Best regards!

Hello Johannes,
Thank you for your reply - I am sorry that my question was so unclear...
What you wrote is obvious to me. What I actually want is to upgrade to CVI2015 and remove the old version. The question I have is which sequence I should use. Usually, de-installing the old software first is a good idea because it avoids the risk that some files that are used by both versions may be removed in the un-install process. So why I am asking is: if I de-install CVI2013 first, will the update service remain on the computer? And, if I first de-install CVI2013, will my preferences in the editor etc. be transferred to the new version? Or, is it recommended/safe to de-install CVI2013 after installing CVI2015?
Thanks!

Hello again, Wolfgang!
Because the NI Update Service does not depend on LabWindows/CVI, NI Update Service will still remain on your machine aftre you uninstall LabWindows/CVI.
Also, after you uninstall LabWindows/CVI, the editor preferences, environment settings and other user registry settings will still be present in the system registry, so if you uninstall LabWindows/CVI 2013 before installing LabWindows/CVI 2015, you can import your older settings in the newer version.
So basically it doesn't matter in which order you uninstall your older version of CVI: either before or after installing LabWindows/CVI 2015 you should be fine.
Best regards!

Hello Johannes,
I am sorry to tell you but it seems that your information is wrong...
I have uninstalled CVI 2013, the RTEs..., keeping just the Update Service, restarted the computer, ran Update Service - but now it tells me that no update is found and all my software is up to date, well, obviously there is no software left on my computer to update....

NI Update Service only tracks subscriptions to already installed NI products. Because you first chose to uninstall LabWindows/CVI 2013, NI Update Service will no longer track any updates to it. However, you can procede installing LabWindows/CVI 2015 by going to the online download page and manually installing it using the web downloader: http://www.ni.com/lwcvi/download/
After you download and start installing LabWindows/CVI 2015, simply enter your S/N and activate your copy of the product.
Best regards!

So the bitter news is that the Update Service cannot be used to upgrade CVI this way - it only can be used to install another version. Personally I consider this disappointing. OK, now I know and hopefully all other CVI users are warned.

Hello Wolfgang!
I'm sorry to inform you about this inconvenience, but the web downloader from the link I provided seems to be experiencing some issues. In the meantime I'm providing you with a different download location, that you can use to install LabWindows/CVI 2015: http://www.ni.com/download/labwindowscvi-full-development-system-2015/5373/en/
Best regards!
