Yes, there is a similar thread http://forums.ni.com/t5/Instrument-Control-GPIB-Serial/NI-MAX-error-message-quot-There-was-a-problem...but the answer doesn't help me.
I have 2 AVT Manta cameras on a 4 port NI GigE card. I have installed Vision Acquistion software August 2015 (running Win 7 on a PC) and when I open MAX (version 15.0) it displays this error and I cannot see the cameras. "There was a problem updating the settings for this device."
Complicating matters, with the AVT Vimba 2.0 software I can get images from the cameras with no problem. Also, when I first opened MAX after installation I could see the cameras. The problem only occurred after I closed MAX and attempted to run an executable vision program (which wouldn't run because I hadn't installed the LabVIEW Runtime Engine of Vision Development Runtime.)
Suggestions?

I don't remember exactly but once for basler cameras something like this error happened.
-delete the .iid file for camera and try again opening MAX an see if it works.

-Can you tell which GigE card you are using?
-Did you try with single camera?
-Did you try connecting single camera directly to PC?
-Do you have access to any other PC, if you can try with that.
-Did you check the troubleshooting guide: https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA03q000000YM6JCAW&l=en-US
-Can you try resetting MAX Database, maybe when you run the other program the databse got corrupted?: https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z000000P8awSAC&l=en-US
-Could you post some screenshots of errors describing the status of MAX with error?

Got a solution from the camera vendor. Apparently there's some kind of GeniCam 3.0 bug. They gave me these links:
