My I grab camera image from MicroFire 1600x1200 camera with NI-IMAG for IEEE1394 graber

I am using MicroFire CCD camera with IEEE 1394 driver (Optronics Pictureframe ver.2.3), how to take an image using LV IMAG Vision software, do I need to purchase NI-IMAG IEEE 1394 driver?

Hi Andy47,

Yes, in order to acquire images from a firewire camera in LabVIEW, you will need to use either the NI-IMAQdx driver or NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 (legacy).  NI-IMAQdx and NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 Cameras are not available for free, but you can use them as a full featured evaluation version for 30 days after which you will need to activate for further use.

After you install the NI-IMAQdx (or legacy) driver, you will have access to example VIs in LabVIEW which will show you how to perform operations like Grab or Snap from your firewire camera.

I downloaded IMAQ IEEE1394 from NI web, the name does not specify if it is legacy, nevertheless, after selecting MicroFire Camera from the driver I got: "Error Updating driver", the software was downloaded with administrative access, what shall I do next?

Thanks, Andy47

Hi Andy47,

This issue is typically related to not having Administrative privileges at the time when you try to swap drivers.  You mentioned that you had administrator privileges during the download -- do you still have admin privileges?  Are you trying to update the driver through MAX or the Windows Device Manager?  Also, is the driver that you were using previously (Optronics Pictureframe ver.2.3) still on the computer?  If so, try removing it and see if this makes a difference.

The Microfire camera that you are working with is IIDC/DCAM compliant, so it should work with the firewire drivers from NI.  The NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 is the legacy firewire driver from NI.

Thank you, the downloaded software works, how much cost NI-IMAQ IEEE 1394 driver (I do have third party IEEE 1394 interface). Having driver, do I need to purchase and install LV Vision license (how much) to PC with CCD camera? I’m writing executable software in LV for image analysis with LV Vision.

Thanks, Andy47

Hi Andy47,

I'm glad to hear you were able to get your camera working.  Was the issue caused by not having administrative privileges?

You can see the listed prices for Vision Acquisition drivers (includes NI IMAQ for IEEE 1394) and Vision Development Module at the locations below.

NI Vision Acquisition (needed for Image Acquisition)

I would also recommend contacting NI Sales at

Dear Andy47,

I work in a research institute and use Microfire camera as well. We need to transfer the software to another computer as the current one is way too old and sometimes misbehaves. However, we lost the CD with PictureFrame for PC (only have the Mac version).

Would it be possible to borrow your CD for a week? We will pay for transportation to us and back. For my credentials, please visit https://researchers.cedars-sinai.edu/Ljubimov

Thanks,

Alex
