suggestion for hardware for real time image analysis

Hello everyone. We would like to set up a system for real time image process. We would like to take image continuously (around 50 frame/sec)  and perform real time analysis (e.g. object length). Based on the analysis, we will need to send out TTL trigger signal and arbitrary voltage waveform to control other devices. We will also need analogue voltage input module. The timing is critical in our case.

We are considering a PXI-RT system with NI smart camera or Compact-Rio with NI-camera. Would you please evaluate our case and recommend camera, chassis, controller and modules?

Thanks

Hi Yuwang,

The Smart Cameras you are looking at are an embedded system themselves. You would probably be fine with just a PXI chassis and a GigE or CameraLink framegrabber, the cRIO won't have the computational power to do image processing in real-time.

I would agree.  A PXI-RT chassis with a vision acquisition card (connected to a standard camera) and a MIO card for the analog and digital signals would be ideal.  Plenty of processing power to meet your timing requirements, even in some of the less expensive PXI options.

Thanks al ot. I think then we will go with the pxi-rt option.
