7604 ni motion does not return to same position

I am setting up stepper motor control (one axis only) using the MID-7604 power drive and NI Motion Assistant. I want to move the stepper motor backwards and forwards returning to the same positions each time. Using NI-Motion Assistant I have set up 2 straight line moves, one at point 0 and another at point 6400 so they move back and forth between them. However, when I run NI-Motion Assistant the stepper motor runs back and forth but also forward a couple of times and then returns to back and forth again. How can I configure it to return to same positions each time. Currently I am not using an encoder and have not wired up the Limits. I am also thinking of purchasing the NEMA 17 stepper motors that are recommended to use with the 7604 system.

Hi Martin,

Is the assistant performing the same move each time?

As you mentioned, if you use an encoder you would have better information relating to positioning and it would make this task much easier.
