Bad, noisy and offset readings with DaqPad 6016

I have a DaqPad 6016 an do get readings that have nothing in common with the signal that is measured. So, as suggested, I short curcuited Pin 1 and 13 and set the Max testpanel to NRSE mode for ai0. All other pins are unconnected. At first the readings are not too ad, bad soon I have a 3V noise. What can be the Problem?

Plz answer following queries to help us answer you better?

what is the source of your signal??
is it a floating or a ground referenced source??
To which connector pins on the DAQPad have you connected the + and - of the source ??

Did you short ai0 and ai sense??
Where did you read this suggestion ??

I have a ground referenced signal source. But in the described problem I disconnected all signal lines and shorted ai0 and aisense as suggested in the tutorial "Field Wiring and Noise Considerations for Analog Signals". All other pins are unconnected.
