Connecting encoder to MYDAQ

Hello All,

Having a lot of trouble connecting a rotary encoder to my MYDAQ.

My rotary encoder has 4 wires. GND (0v), output impulse of encoder, and Vcc (5v) and a phase quadrature impulse which is not used (the encoder is from work and its purpose is as a belt speed monitor, which is also what I want it for..

I have connected this up with the daq assistant with my impulse wire to DIO 0, and my 5v to DIO 1, 0V to DIO 2, and DGND, both no good. Then I swapped the Vcc and the GND and tried the same with the Vcc in DIO 2 and DGND. Its a simple vi I am using, I need the encoder working and i am just trying to sort that for a bigger purpose later. I attached my VI. I am sure I am doing something very simple wrong, so if someone would be so good as to help me I would be delighted!

Much thanks,

Jim

Hello Jim,

I would suggest you post the specification's sheet of your rotary encoder in order for me to confirm the following suggestions. I am assuming that the Vcc needs to be attached to a port that is providing 5 volts of excitation and GND needs to be attached to the ground terminal of your myDAQ. Thus I would suggest the following wiring scheme

Output Impulse of the Encoder->DIO0

GND-> GND

Vcc-> 5V terminal

Again, to check my idea above kindly provide a detailed specifications page for your rotary encoder, and

Regards,

Buen dia

Como puedo conectar mi encoder a MyDaq para saber las RPM que maneja mi motor para verlas en el Labview

Las RPM que dice mi motor son de 1725 en la placa.

Adjunto el datasheet del encoder que tengo
